Both of our Papers of the Month are refined FineArt papers that offer excellent color reproduction, deep blacks, and fine detail rendering. The main difference between the two lies in their material composition and tactile structure.
Hahnemühle Rice Paper is very lightweight (100 gsm) and made from 100% α-cellulose. Its white, lightly textured and translucent surface—free from optical brighteners—features a subtle laid line structure that makes it a standout among fine art printing papers. Rice Paper is particularly well-suited for freely hanging artworks, reproductions of historical documents, and traditional Asian painting techniques—and it’s also a popular choice for wedding invitations.
Awagami Inbe Thin White is a traditional Japanese washi paper composed of hemp and kozo (mulberry) fibers. It is thin and light (70 gsm), yet surprisingly strong. Its natural white tone and subtly textured matte surface make it an excellent choice for fine art prints and historical reproductions where lightness and paper texture are especially valued. Its use cases closely align with those of Rice Paper.
Both papers are at their best when presented without mounting, lightly and freely suspended. A display that allows light to pass through from behind beautifully highlights the paper fibers and gives the work a near-living quality.

Inbe Thin White
Awagami Factory’s Inbe Thin is a Japanese Washi-style FineArt paper made from exceptionally strong hemp and kozo (mulberry) fibers. Its subtly textured matte surface and natural white tone make it especially suitable for fine art photography, limited edition prints, and the reproduction of antique documents. Despite its thinness, the hemp fibers provide impressive tensile strength, making it durable for various applications. The thin construction also allows the paper’s texture and structure to subtly show through the image, adding depth and dimension.
