Glass and Acrylic

Different types of glass and acrylic – Which one is right for me?

Traditional float glass, anti-reflective glass, UV glass, or plexiglass?

What are the differences between them? And what features do these types of glass offer?

Both glass and acrylic come with a variety of useful features.

  • First of all, they keep the picture and any passepartout securely in place within the frame.

  • Glass also protects the picture from external damage, such as moisture, dirt, and scratches.

  • Some picture glass offers conservation-grade UV protection, preventing the picture from fading over time.

  • Plexiglass is made from acrylic plastic and offers better durability and lighter weight compared to regular glass.

  • Anti-reflective glass is designed to reduce reflections caused by light sources, such as lamps or daylight. These glasses ensure that the picture remains bright and clear, without disappearing behind reflections – as if the glass weren’t there at all.

  • Although anti-reflective glass is a more expensive option, it is very popular.
If you don’t want to use this glass for all your frames, we especially recommend it for pictures that are likely to be placed in areas with significant reflections.
